Sorry it has taken so long to respond to your comment (It has been crazy for me, I have been gone for almost three weeks straight and our fall kickoff is about to happen... I know I'm whinning).

As far as curriculum goes, I use my own on Sunday mornings. We write everything in house for our preteens. We do a large group/small group format, with large group time containing a message time and small group lessons that match the message. For Wednesday nights, we use our own, or use a hodge podge of different stuff.I know that there is some new curriculum coming out very soon, but I not at liberty to say anything yet (that is one of the reasons I was gone).

Curriculum for preteens is one of the areas that needs to be developed.

Joe

Hi Joe - I realize I'm too late for your workshop, but I wanted to comment on my philosophy of preteen ministry. I want our preteens to connect with one another in a faith setting, connect with God and connect with their families. Belonging and believing! I also believe preteen ministry needs to involve the parents in subtle ways in order to open or keep open the channels of communication as the kids mature and begin to separate from their parents to develop their own identity.

I would be interested to know what curriculum you are using with your preteens. I've been relying primarily on Group Publishing with some stories from Chicken Soup for the Preteen Soul.

My church's Family Challenge is, in part, a response to this sort of issue. The idea is to encourage families to consider God, his creation, his Church and his people without adding to their burdens. It's early days yet but, so far, it's looking good.
